3 April 2009 - Zagreb, Croatia
And down to Zagreb for the weekend to watch the 2009 World Synchronized Team Skating Champsionships (and to see the city itself)!
The best way (or rather, the only way that's worked for me) to get to know a new city is to get lost immediately upon arrival. Then, become un-lost, get situated and acclimated, eventually reaching your original destination. I got lost for more than two hours my first day in Berlin. This time, when I arrived in Zagreb, I accidentely bought a Train ticket instead of a Street Tram ticket (paying more than 20$), ended up riding the aforementioned Tram around the city completely (ending up on the opposite side of where I wanted to go), and then resorted to drawing little cartoons in order to have a conversation with a lady selling flowers on the street.
During the process of becoming un-lost, I stumbled upon this picture. S-K-A-T-E. I'm a huge believer in coincedence, and this is a nice one (despite the fact that the graffeti is probably refering to skateboarding).
Another little house, this one a Gingerbread House rather than one made out of LEGOs.
Another good thing about being lost is that one must constantly be looking around, and thus, one tends to notice interesting people and things. This woman is wearing what seemingly every European lady owns: great heels, a tiny leather jacket, a Handtasche (hand purse) and great clothing in a simple, soft colour palette. I like that she's running amid such a colourful scene.
2009 Synchro Worlds at the Dom Sportova Arena: 18 Countries, 23 teams, countless skaters, one amazing competition.
