1 April 2009 - Berlin
After classes, but before we headed deeper into the city to learn more about its history, we explored around Rüdesheimer Platz.
This is the square near our class hall, with some of the first spring blossoms and flowers. I didn't realize that the flowers were geometrically planted until I (most likely, illegally) climbed up the base of a statue.
As someone who designed and built with LEGOs for years as a kid, I was excited to see this in the playground by Rüdesheimer Platz. M (my travel/exploration companion) was not as pleased, but I think the colours of the LEGO house actually help it blend into its surroundings, as all the buildings around it are also brightly painted. It fits, in my view, and the children seemed to enjoy it greatly.
We walked around Freidrich Str. and Alexander Platz, and found this wonderful area, with old cathedrals and churches next to dance halls and graffetti walls. This woman stopped to take a rest, right outside what must have once been a grand hall or meeting place. She managed to find the one ray of sunshine that was still shining brightly, despite the quickly-oncoming dusk.
