1 Mai 2009 - Berlin

The first day of May in Germany is historically marked by demonstrations, usually violent and extensive. Numerous people have told me about this, but maybe I am limited by my small knowledge of the German language, but I still don't really understand why these Autonomens and others demonstrate.
Here's a photo of some young anarchists, all dressed in black and carrying a flag.

However, I did not demonstrate. Instead, I hit up a Flöh Markt (flea market) by the Tiergarten. It's the second time I have gone to this particular flea market, and it's filled with interesting odds and ends. This elderly woman, while she did not have the most extensive collections of wares, had this gorgeous umbrella, which she used to shield herself from the hot sun.

The Tiergarten was filled with sunbathing people and lots of green leaves.

This man was sitting by the U-Bahn station reading, a picture of serenity amid the tourists and cars. I liked his bike as well.
